MAARSSEN, Netherlands (December 2) -Thousands of mountain bikes designed for teenagers are being recalled because the frame is not strong enough to withstand rough treatment.

Toy superstore Toys R Us warned in newspaper advertisements yesterday that anyone who bought the Sabre 26in Polaris Full Suspension Bike should not ride it.

Callers to a support line were offered an alternative bike or a full refund after the discovery of a weakness in the frame that could lead to the bicycle coming apart. Engineers at Essex-based Universal Cycles, which imported the bikes from China, said the decision to recall all 2,000 bicycles sold was taken after a couple collapsed after heavy use.

About 5,000 of the bikes were imported for Toys R Us, and where they sold for £69.99(€ 101). (source: The Scotsman)
