Buyers Group for Bikes and Sporting Goods Expands

ZÜRICH, Switzerland – Swiss sporting goods retail giant Sport XX – a subsidiary of the country’s conglomerate Migros Group – announced to become a member of the European sporting goods buyers group Sports Trade Marketing International S.a.r.l. (STMI).

Two sporting goods retailers – Go Sport from France and Hervis Sports from Austria – founded STMI in 2012. With SportXX the 5th European sporting goods retail chain is joining this purchasing powerhouse. Next to SportXX, Go Sport and Hervis Sports STMI members are also Forum Sport from Spain and Twinner International from France.

Together they represent now over 1,300 retail shops in 24 countries with an estimated sales volume of approximately 2.4 billion euro. All five STMI members are also selling bikes and P&A.

Optimized purchasing

Swiss SportXX is operating a total of 54 outlets with total sales of 212 million euro. With its STMI membership the company is getting direct access to the European procurement market as well as optimized purchasing, says STMI general manager Max Ackerer. Moreover the company is to benefit from more efficient joint marketing services.

French Groupe Go Sport is overlooking the Go Sport sporting goods business as well as Courir sport wear business. The group’s (international) network consists out of 334 shops. Total annual sales stands at 642 million euro.

On its Austrian home market Hervis Sports is: “The largest sporting goods retail chain and the second largest sporting goods dealer”. Sales volume is about 500 million euro annually. Hervis is a 100% subsidiary of Spar Österreichische Warenhandels AG and operates about 80 outlets in and 97 outside Austria.

Forum Sport belongs to the Spanish food and non-food chain store giant Eroski Group. On its home market Forum Sport has 41 shops with an annual sales volume of 107 million euro.

French Twinner International keeps operates two retail networks: Twinner with 153 shops in France and 260 in Spain. Pro du Sport overlooks a total of 288 stores. Together they reach a sales volume of 171 million euro.

Paving way for further expansion

Alfred Eichblatt – GM of STMI founding member Hervis Sports – welcomes SportXX: “With SportXX we strengthen our presence in mid Europe and also pave the way for further expansion.
