Double Digit Cycling Sales Increase at Halfords UK
REDDITCH, UK – Cycle and car parts retailer Halfords has started a nationwide campaign to fill 500 new permanent positions across its 467 superstores – the majority in cycling roles. Halfords says the recruitment drive: “has been driven – in part – by the phenomenal growth in cycling sales.”
The over 20% increase in bike sales is: “Inspired by the success of the UK’s elite athletes and the continued investment in the country’s cycling infrastructure,” says Halfords.
New improved shopping experience
Speaking exclusively to Bike Europe, Louise Iles, Halfords Cycles PR Manager, commented the drive will mean: “More colleagues on the shop floor, building bikes and serving customers. We are also rolling out our new store format providing a new improved shopping experience with particular attention to our cycling areas.”
Iles added: “60% of the new posts are cycle-focused, with an emphasis on in store customer service and cycle insight.”
Over 20% increase in cycling sales
The company also had further recent positive financial news, reporting a 21.3% increase in the latest quarter’s like-for-like cycling sales, including a 35.1% increase in premium-bike sales. This accompanies Halford’s recent purchase of Boardman Bikes.
‘The Bike Whisperer’
In parallel with its instore makeover and job expansion programme Halfords has also been running a humorous documentary style ad film, created by Red Bee Media. Entitled “The Bike Whisperer”, it has been airing on Halfords’ YouTube channel from the start of July.
