Signa Sports Group Anticipates Accelerating Multi-Channel Growth

VIENNA, Austria – Signa Retail – a company under the umbrella of the Austrian real estate and retail giant Signa Holding GmbH – is driving forward the development of its multi-channel platforms. The company that owns Germany’s number one webshop for bikes and P&A, Internetstores, expects accelerating sales for which it prompted Karstadt Sports CEO Michael Rumerstorfer to switch to Signa Retail as MD.

With immediate effect Rumerstorfer will be taking on responsibility for technology and know-how transfer within the entire group. “The aim is to speed up the growth of the Signa Sports Group even more, and to expand the market position of its many holdings,” is noted by Signa Retail.

Europe’s multi-channel sports sector

According to its own statement Signa Sports Group is “Clearly number 1 in Germany and ranks among the top 5 in the multi-channel sports sector in Europe. The group owns Karstadt Sports and holds majority interests in Internetstores (leading in bike and outdoor), Tennis-Point (no. 1 in tennis), Outfitter (no. 2 in football, running and team sports) and Probikeshop (leading online bike retailer in Southern Europe and France).”

Tailor-made strategies

“Adding to the internal strength of the management team of the Signa Sports Group means that the multi-channel business of all units can grow even faster”, explains Signa Retail Managing Director Dr. Stephan Fanderl, “in 2016 we started out with the online business at Karstadt Sports as a new venture, and we shall be developing it substantially into the early part of 2018. In parallel with that, we will bring in pure-online players from the Signa Sports Group, whether at Karstadt Sports or as stand-alone businesses. With people from our own ranks with a wealth of corporate experience, we can very quickly implement tailor-made strategies for our units.”

At German sporting goods outlet company Karstadt Sports CEO Rumerstorfer set the successful new course. He handed over his job as CEO to Thomas Wanke, former Head of Sales of Karstadt Warenhaus.
