Darfon Switches Strategy to Become E-Bike Parts Supplier
TAOYUAN, Taiwan – Initially the Taiwanese electronics manufacturer entered the market with BESV and Votani branded e-bikes but as part of a shifting market approach, Darfon announced at Eurobike to shift its focus to develop and produce batteries and electronics for e-bikes. Darfon’s new strategy includes the opening of an e-bike battery factory in Europe.
Darfon’s presentation at Eurobike was fully dedicated to the new market approach. The company presented itself as e-bike service supplier and will concentrate its business on batteries, e-bike electronics and frames. “The development and production of electronics is our core business, also on the e-bike market,” explains Darfon’s e-bike President Andy Su. “Of course we will continue the distribution of our e-bike brands to keep a good feeling with the market, but we will shift our focus to develop and produce batteries and electronics for e-bikes.
Later this year Darfon will open a new e-bike battery assembly facility in the city of Brno in the Czech Republic with a capacity of 1 million units annually. “Our facility in Brno will also include our future service center for batteries which is now still based in Eindhoven, the Netherlands,” said Andy Su. “The market for e-bike batteries is growing quickly and with our ‘close to market’ production facility we can offer our partners the best possible service.” Next to batteries, Darfon’s service package also includes electronics, like displays and battery management systems but also e-bike dedicated frames.
