Raleigh: ‘E-MTB’s Are UK’s Biggest Growth Area
BIRMINGHAM, UK – Terry Blackwood of Raleigh UK Ltd took the opportunity of the Cycle Show trade day in Birmingham late September to give his view on the future of the bicycle market in the United Kingdom. “Electric mountain bikes will be the biggest growth area in the immediate future in the UK market.”
Terry Blackwood said this during a seminar talk on electric bikes at the Cycle Show trade day, primarily aimed at bicycle dealers. He showed some interesting graphs and a list of mistaken assumptions often made by UK dealers.
More than Raleigh only
There were plenty of electric mountain bikes to be seen at the Cycle Show this year, including many with rear suspension as well as front. Raleigh’s own Haibike brand now includes no fewer than 21 different models of e-MTBs ranging in price from GBP 1,850 (€ 2,350) to GBP 6,000 (€ 7,600).
Powabyke even showed a full size electric mountain bike that can be folded in half. Other e-bikes on display were among others Cube, Smart, KTM, Gazelle, Riese & Müller and Solex.
As in 2013, there was a large area of the show devoted entirely to electric bicycles (and trikes) plus a 300 metre outdoor test track, complete with artificial ‘hill’ and scores of different e-bikes available for test rides.
A full show report will be published in the November issue of Bike Europe.
