The introduction of Shimano’s new 105 grade hydraulic disc brake is combined with a flat mount calliper. The brakes use a mineral oil reservoir housed in a compact mechanical lever with a 10mm reach adjustment. Hydraulic hosing carrying the mineral oil features the improved cable routing introduced on the Ultegra hydraulic system last year, with the hose running down the inside of the calliper for a neater and more aerodynamic design.

Simplified set-up

Set up of the hydraulic system is simplified with Shimano’s easy-to-install pre-bled J-KIT (Junction kit) system and a funnel bleeding option. The new Flat Mount front fork and rear stay fitting also brings aerodynamic advantages by introducing a closer fit between the calliper and the frame. Together with the lever and calliper the new 140 mm rotors and pads allow for consistent braking performance through all weather conditions with innovative ICE heat management technology and adjustable stopping power that can be tuned to the riding conditions, terrain, rider’s size and ability.

New Tiagra groupset

Shimano is also introducing a new Tiagra groupset. The new Tiagra 4700 adopts key technologies featured on Shimano’s other race-proven group sets, like Dura-Ace, Ultegra and 105. It runs on a 10-speed drivetrain operated by improved ergonomic shift/brake levers (STI). The new rear derailleur has a revised cable pitch which offers precise and long-lasting shifting performance and is compatible with up to a 34T cassette. New Tiagra also offers an upgraded brake system with a 30% increased power, while the modulation of the brakes has improved too.
