More Dedicated e-MTB Parts Presented

FRIEDRICHSHAFEN, Germany – That the electric mountainbike is evolving into a class of its own has been underlined in an unequivocal manner at last week’s Eurobike. In particular as more and more dedicated components are presented in order for these bikes to adequately deal with the more powerful motor outputs and off road usage.

Next to dedicated suspension forks like the Magura Boltron last week’s Eurobike saw the introduction of more components that target specifically e-MTBs. In particular transmission parts were presented that are suited to deal with the high torque output of the mid-motors used in e-MTBs. Like the new Shimano E8000 Steps drive unit that is capable of 70Nm torque. And that’s only moderate as there are drive systems offering 120Nm.


To be able to cope with such forces and stresses SRAM showed at Eurobike its new EX1 transmission set of which the Chicago based parts maker claims, “It’s the world’s 1st drive system specifically developed for the unique demands of the e-MTB. With proven 1X technology the Group’s heart is the EX1 cassette providing the best gear range for mid-motor e-MTBs. Quiet operation, intuitive shifting, increased battery life and greater durability, EX1 opens doors to a new world of mountainbiking.”

KMC’s pinions

KMC also presented a solution for e-MTBs to deal with high motor outputs. The world’s biggest in bicycle chains showed at Eurobike motor pinions and pinions for gear hubs suited for e-MTB usage and able to cope with extreme toque forces for a prolonged lifespan. Of course these pinions are targeted to be used in combination for the e-bike chains from KMC. The company offers pinions for Bosch and Shimano mid-motors and for the NuVinci gear system.
