Chinese Bike Producer Trinity Forms Joint Venture in India

LUDHIANA, India - Chinese bicycle producer Guangzhou Trinity Cycle Co. Ltd. has formed a joint venture company in India. The JV is registered as a subsidiary of a foreign company at the Register of Companies in the Western Indian city of Pune (Maharashtra). The entity was registered under the name ‘Trinity Cycles India Private Limited’ on 14th July, 2016.

A source close to company confirmed the formation of the JV but declined to comment further on by when the company would commence bicycle production in India.

Asia Bicycle Alliance Conference

Trinity is represented by Xiaoling Weixiong Liang among the board of directors of Trinity Cycles India Ltd. with two other Indian directors. He was also a part of Chinese bicycle industry delegation that took part in the Asia Bicycle Alliance (ABA) Conference in Chandigarh last December.

It has been confirmed that the Indian partner has started importing bicycles from the Chinese company and selling it under the Schnell brand name  for kids and Keysto brand for adults in India.

India market outlook

Trinity Cycle Co. Ltd. started the joint venture on the outlook of the India market opening up for sports categories as well as for higher priced bikes. Next to that the easing of an Indian  taxation system comes also into play here. During the last December ABA conference Chinese bike makers showed an interest in investing in the Indian bicycle sector due to the changes in taxation.

Other Asian countries

Next to India the Guangzhou Trinity Cycle Co. Ltd is also expanding into various other Asian countries through forming JVs with local partners. The company has introduced its Trinx brand in Iran through a joint ventrure with Mehr Aein Vanda Company in May 2016. The Iranian venture started under the title ‘Vanda F&T (Fasto & Trinx)’.

Founded in 1992, Guangzhou Trinity Cycles Co Ltd has an annual production capacity of 1.2 million bicycles; 1 million aluminum frames and 800,000 suspension forks. It has plants in China, Taiwan & Russia. In 2014, the company also started in the Philippines.
