France makes bike marking mandatory to protect against theft

PARIS, France – To face the huge problem of bicycle theft in France, the French Government has, since January 1st, 2021, passed a law which imposes the mandatory marking of all new bikes sold in a store or on the Internet. This law will be extended to second-hand bikes sold in retail shops from July 1st.
From January 1st all new bikes sold in France must be marked and registered in a national file. This measure will be extended to second-hand bikes on July 1st. - Photo Michel de Chavanon
