Functional Sports Drinks do not Boost Performance
ONTARIO, Canada - Adding protein to a sports drink will not make you race faster, according to researchers at McMaster University, Ontario. "Sports drinks improve performance during prolonged exercise because of two key ingredients: carbohydrate, which provides fuel for working muscles, and sodium, which helps to maintain fluid balance," commented Martin Gibala, an associate professor of kinesiology at McMaster.
