    12.5% growth for Giant Group in 2022; outlook remains solid

    TAICHING, Taiwan - Taiwan's leading bicycle producer Giant Group saw its fiscal 2022 sales jump by a double-digit 12.5% year-on-year to TW$ 92.04 billion (€2.82 billion). However, the impact of rising material and labour costs as well as increased OE-business affected the Group's overall gross margin and operating profit performance.

    Taipei prepares for international bike industry again

    For most international industry peers, the 2023 Taipei Cycle Show will be the first time since 2019 that they set foot on the island again. The 2020 edition was one of the first international shows to be cancelled because of the pandemic and due to strict governmental entry regulations an international event was not possible last year. 2023 marks a welcome return of one of the premium events on the bike industry calendar.

    Subscribers only German e-bike market performed strong in 2022

    BERLIN, Germany - The German e-bike and bicycle market performed very strong in 2022 with a 10% increase in e-bike sales the national industry organisation, ZIV has reported. Perhaps sales could have been much higher as ZIV CEO Burkhard Stork refers to a "general reluctance of consumers to buy in the second half of the year."

    Cyclingworld Düsseldorf finds the right concept with boutique show

    DÜSSELDORF, Germany - The fifth edition of Cyclingworld proved that the organisation has found a successful concept to attract consumers to visit a bicycle show again. In two days and one evening, some 23,000 people attended the event, an increase of 30% compared to the last edition in 2019.

    BRUSSELS, Belgium - A major hike in the average import price of e-bikes into the European Union, in combination with a double digit increase in the number of e-bikes shipped to Europe gave a remarkable push to the market value in 2022. Also, the average import price of mechanical bicycles to the EU soared last year.

    ZEIST, the Netherlands - In recent years, researchers and scientists have been working tirelessly to develop new battery cell technologies that can meet the energy demands of the future while also being cost-effective and environmentally friendly. LFP (LiFePO4) batteries are already mainstream with EV's and have a roughly double cycle life, compared to NMC batteries. Meanwhile, Na-ion batteries will further increase safety, temperature range and will be substantially cheaper.

    New ruling supports subsidising European battery industry

    BRUSSELS, Belgium - The European Commission has widened the State aid rules to make it easier to subsidise the battery industry and raw materials recycling in the EU. The announced public financial aid could foster batteries for industry and for cars, as well as for e-bikes or other light means of transport (LMT batteries).
