LUDHIANA, India - After its recent take-over of Avocet in the UK, India's Hero Cycles continues its buying spree. The latest to be bought is the home-grown premium bicycle brand Firefox. Hero acquired Firefox Bikes as part of its strategy to further cement its position in the fast-growing premium cycling segment in India.

NUNSPEET, the Netherlands - As from 1 January 2017, the Shimano European head office will be located at the High Tech Campus (HTC) in Eindhoven in the south of the Netherlands. SAN JUAN CAPISTRANO, USA - Interbike, the largest bicycle industry trade show in North America, announces the launch of a new four-day demo event that focuses on East Coast bicycle retailers. Currently Interbike is only held at the West Coast, in Las Vegas where the 2015 show closed its doors last Friday, September 18.

TAIPEI, Taiwan - Up until 18 December 2015, manufacturers and designers from the cycling industry are invited to enter their designs and innovations to be put to the test by the judges in the Taipei Cycle design & innovation awards 2016.

VIENNA, Austria - Bike sales in Austria turned around last year, compared to a disappointing 2013. Due to a rainy summer Austrians bought 6.8% fewer bikes in 2013. Better conditions in 2014 boosted sales again with a 5.1% increase. Also in Austria, e-bikes were outperforming all other categories.

BERLIN, Germany - The German market saw solid growth in 2014, in particular for e-bikes. Close to 8% more bikes were sold in Germany last year. A total of 4.1 million bicycles and e-bikes were traded. The average value per bike sold to the consumer was up to a record breaking €528.

AGUEDA, Portugal - Bike Valley Portugal is gaining momentum as more bike component manufacturers are starting production here. Like a major maker of suspension forks whose production is planned to start here in the first quarter of 2017.

BERN, Switzerland - During a meeting of the 'Disc Brake Group' of the World Federation Sporting Goods Industry (WFSGI) at Eurobike it became clear that the formal introduction and endorsement by the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) is a big step closer now.

TAICHUNG, Taiwan - Merida Industry made a strong start in 2015. Amidst difficult market circumstances in China, the group booked a robust increase in sales between January and July 2015. In the meantime the Taiwanese company also opened its e-bike dedicated plant in Taichung.

WILTON, USA - Dorel Sports, a segment of Dorel Industries named Russell Merry Senior Vice President & General Manager North America and the UK, Cycling Sports Group. In this new role, Russell will have leadership of the Cycling Sports Group North America business. Whether this appointment is related to Dorel Sports' declining sales in Europe is not noted in the Dorel statement.
