BMW Motorbike Increases Sales by 8% in 1999

BERLIN, Germany (7 February 2000)–Last year BMW’s motorbike division recorded its seventh record year in a row. According to Marco von Maltzahn, general manager of BMW Motorbike, based in Berlin, the company sold 65,168 units in 1999. This is an 8.1% increase over 1998.
Two thirds of BMW’s production was for export. Interest in BMW increased particularly among Italians and Americans. Within the next two years BMW Motorbike will push further growth with a DEM100 million investment in the Berlin motorbike facility. This facility currently employs approximately 2,100 people. (JB)
