NUNSPEET, Netherlands (21 February 2000)–Bicycle component manufacturer Shimano has begun promoting its Airlines groupset via its website (www.shimano.nl). It is the company’s first experience with e-business. Together with its European distributors, Shimano Service Centers and Shimano Europe, the Airlines groupset will be offered across Europe at a suggested retail price of EUR1,750.
The high-tech Airlines, which uses air pressure to shift gears on downhill bikes, was tested by the well-known Skunk Development Team and by top-downhillers before entering in production.
A limited production will be sold through Shimano’s Europe’s website, while Shimano Service Centers (dealers thus) will supply and install the groupset. Shimano Service Centers will also be the point of payment. (JW)
