PARIS, France (6 March 2000)–During the first stage of the Paris-Nice race, won by Frenchman Laurent Brochard, three cyclists from the Credit Agricole team broke their bike frames. Anthony Morin, Magnus Backstedt and Stuart O’Grady each fell during their individual time trials due to a broken frame.
“I’ve never experienced anything like this,” said team leader Roger Legeay. “The bikes were controlled before the race. It is a miracle that none of the cyclists ended up with serious injuries.” (JW)
