BEIJING, China (15 April 2000)–China and Malaysia have signed an agreement on China’s entry into the World Trade Organization, leaving just seven WTO members who have yet to approve China’s bid to join the trade group, according to a report by the Associated Press. The agreement was signed Wednesday in Malaysia by China’s trade minister, Shi Guangsheng, and his Malaysian counterpart, Rafidah Aziz. China still requires agreements with the European Union, Costa Rica, Ecuador, Guatemala, Latvia, Mexico and Switzerland before it can join the group that makes rules for world trade. (JW)
