PARIS, France (19 April 2000)–France¹s second largest sporting goods retail chain Go Sport has plans to enter two new European markets in 2001. The company
however has refrained from commenting on which markets, but is reportedly looking toward Spain, reports the industry newsletter Sporting Goods Intelligence (SGI).
Go Sport currently has 94 chains in France, seven in Belgium and three in Poland. According to SGI, Go Sport¹s consolidated net earnings jumped 32.2% in 1999
to EUR56 million, despite the EUR5.9 million investment into Poland. Sales were up 12.3% to EUR3.254 million. This year the chain plans to open 10-13 new stores in
France and 3-5 in Belgium and Poland, including a second store in Warsaw. Next year the number of new openings in France are planned at 17 and eventually
thinks there is room for 20-25 stores in Belgium and 15 in Poland. (JW)
