TAOYUAN HSIEN, Taiwan (14 April 2000)–Taiwanese component manufacturer Sun Race is investing heavily in magnesium and plastic derailleur, shifter and crank production. The company is constructing a new, four-story building next to its current site near Taipei, already one of the most modern facilities in Taiwan.
“Currently there are only four magnesium injection specialists in Taiwan,” says Alan W. Su, sales and marketing director at Sun Race. “Up to now we’ve been outsourcing our magnesium parts, but to make a serious contribution to this market we decided it was best to set up our own production.” Su says the machinery alone calls for an investment of US$5 million. An additional US$2.5 million was needed for the building’s construction and the land. To make room for the magnesium production, a portion of the company’s low-end assembly will be moved to a leased site in China this June. (JW)
