TOKYO, Japan (13 June 2000)–About one in six Japanese now use the Internet, and more than 14% of the nation’s mobile phone owners use them to get online, reports Access Media International Inc.
According to the report, some 19.4 million Japanese had gone online by the end of February, up
28.5% from the same month a year ago. The Tokyo-based research firm forecasts this number will reach 20.9 million by the end of this month and 22.6 million by December.
Mobile phone users are the fastest-growing segment of the online population in Japan with more than half of Japanese households have at least one mobile phone user, according to Access Media. Access Media said 14.5% of Japan’s 49.9 million mobile phone owners use them to connect to the Internet. (JW)
