WEST PALM BEACH, FL/USA (15 August 2000) — According to latest sales figures by SportsTrend.Info, shoe giant Nike increased its share of the US athletic shoe market through 6 August 2000. The report says that back-to-school shopping and the start of the football season helped the footwear industry achieve a 33% increase in sales last week versus the previous week. Two football shoes head up this week’s list of the top-selling shoes in the nation, based on units sold.
Nike had seven shoes in the top ten list last week. Topping the list was its Black 16 Twitch Shark 3/4 football cleat, which continued to show strong sales with an 11,000-unit increase from last week. The Twitch Shark was followed by the Nike Land Shark 3/4 football cleat and the Adidas Galactic men’s running shoe.
Next to Adidas, New Balance (M803 BK men’s running shoe) and Reebok (Classic Leather whit fitness shoe) were the only other brands to make it into the top ten.
Rounding off the top ten list 4. Nike Jr. Tiempo 650 youth cleated football shoe 5. Nike D5 basketball shoe black/textile 6. Nike Air Jordan XV low basketball shoe white/navy 7. Nike Air Amenity cross trainer gray/obsidian/white 8. New Balance M803 BK men’s running shoe 9. Reebok Classic Leather white fitness shoe 10. Nike Sayonara sport sandal black/metallic silver. (JW)
