NUNSPEET, Netherlands (2 October) — With effect from October 1st 2000, Shimano has acquired the French distributor Ets. A Bertin, located in St Laurent Blangy near Arras, in the North of France. Ets. A Bertin was a family owned company until acquired by the Cibo group 7 years ago. As of today Shimano has purchased 100% of Ets A Bertin from Cibo group.
This acquisition concerns only the distribution-center Ets. A Bertin (which has been a Shimano distributor for 24 years and also distributes several other leading bicycle components brands). The transaction does not include Bertin-Cycles Sarl, the separate company which manufactures the well respected brand of mid-end and high-end racing bicycles in the French market. “Bertin Cycles” has been operating as a separate company since April 1999 and will remain a member of the Cibo group. Inline with Shimano’s group policy of focussing exclusively on bicycle components, “Bertin Cycles” bicycles will not be distributed through Ets. Bertin in future. The complete Bertin distribution team at both employee and managerial levels will stay within the company under the leadership of General Manager André Ghestem, who already worked in this position beforehand.
