WASHINGTON,USA (20 november) – Almost a quarter of a million bicycle helmets have been recalled because they failed to meet U.S. government impact testing and donÕt provide adqueate protection, according to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, a consumer watchdog agency. The largest number of recalls affect the X-Games Aggressive bicycle helmets, marketed by Variflex Inc. of Moorpark, California. These helmets were sold in the USA through sporting goods and discount department stores. Another approximately 2600 helmets are being recalled by NHS of Santa Cruz, California. These are the TSG Metallic Gold, Gloss Black and Foundation BLue models. First Team Sport, the third company, have recalled 1000 Guardian Junior Helmets. No accidents have been reported concerning any of the helmets. The three companies have made provisions so that consumers can replace the affected helmets or get a refund. It is unknown whether any of these helmets Ðunder the same or a different label- have reached the european market.(WJ)
