BIRMINGHAM, UK – (3 November) In another move that continues to reshape the way that cycle parts and accessories are distributed in the UK, Tandem PLC have wholly acquired Two Wheel Trading who will now be a sister company to Falcon Cycles – another member of the Tandem group. The deal also includes Two Wheel Trading’s own wheel building plant which builds up to 200,000 wheels per year and markets itself as bK wheels. This purchase was just one half of a double acquisition as Tandem also purchased Pot Black, a UK based snooker equipment distributor further strengthening the Leisure Product base in the group.
Two Wheel Trading is an importer/distributor of bicycle parts and accessories with a turnover of GBP3.6mn (US$5.2mn;EUR6.0mn) and a workforce of 32. Its sourcing activities are worldwide. Two Wheel Trading has been successful in establishing its own brands such as Freeway, Freak Factory (BMX products) and Air Force (inflation equipment) through a policy of investment in marketing and design. Additionally, they exclusively represent other well established brands such as Crud and Trelock.
In a recent interview Steve Wassell, previous owner and now Managing Director of Two Wheel Trading, explained what the future of the company will be under Tandem ownership. “We acknowledge just how aggressive this market has become. By combining our strengths in the group we are better equipped to further develop new sales opportunities which will benefit all of our customers. These opportunities could be in context of own brand marketing, sourcing, brand representation or new products”. However, Wassell explained that it is Tandem’s policy to develop each group company independently so Two Wheel Trading will keep its own identity. (MR)
