NEW YORK, US ( October 21st) – The latest figures from corporate US are totally different from what we are used to: Splendid! Is the word of choice here… The best quarter since spring 2000 with an estimated jump of 12 % over last year’s third quarter. Intel’s earnings more than doubled for the period. Merrill Lynch’s profit rose 50%. Citigroup reported a 20% rise, while 3M posted a 22% increase. Apple computer’s 45 million loss in 2002 is countered by a $44 million gain, same period this year. Stockmarkets investors are quickly picking up on this trend and trough that are further restoring confidence in the US economy. (MH) source: The New York Times
