MAARSSEN, Netherlands (November 5) – The ‘Summer of the Century’ has helped crank-up bike sales in Germany. A nice 2% rise in sales was recorded during the first six months in 2003 over the same period last year, making a grand total of 3.1 million bikes sold. At the same time the German production was reduced by some 5% – which makes it 2,04 million bikes. The total imports rose with 22%, biggest ‘winners’ were Vietnam(+70%), Czech Republic (+42%) and India (+5%). Biggest suppliers are Poland (294.000 units), Lituania (171.000) and Vietnam (164.000). source: RadMarkt
