MACHECOUL, France – As the trade unions rang the alarm bell last week when Cycleurope announced that the frame production in their plant in Machecoul (Formerly Gitane, Micmo) would be ended, Cycleurope President Tony Grimaldi assured Bike Europe that the company have a water-tight social plan. The total workforce in the Machecoul plant consists of 60% regular workers and 40% flex-workers. The closure of the frame shop will of course cost some employment, but nobody with a regular job will be dismissed. With better competitiveness and imported frames, the workforce may eventually even increase later on.(OB)
