HARTMANNSDORF, Germany (July 18) – Right after taking over the factory of Diamant Fahrradwerke in Hartmannsdorf in 2003, the Trek Group closed its European factory in Ireland. In 2004 the entire Trek-branded trekking bike production for the European market was shifted from Ireland to Germany. Now the Trek Group announced that they will produce a number of Trek roadbike models in Hartmannsdorf too. Therefore production in Germany is forecasted to increase by 70% for 2006. According to the European Trek headquarters in Switzerland, the roadbike models “1000, 1200, 1400, 1500, 6700 and 8000, as well as some Bontrager wheels will be made in Germany. With this step the Americans aim to optimize delivery. Production for the 2006 season already started this May. Next Diamant and Trek, the Hartmannsdorf facility is also produces Villiger-branded bicycles. Villiger and Diamant are part of the Trek Group. (JB)
