NUNSPEET, Netherlands (August 16) – To ensure easier communication between all the Shimano locations, the company has formally adopted English as the ‘lingua franca’. Dubbed ‘Team Shimano’, the idea is to use English exclusively at all meetings where non-Japanese people are attending. This way, it is far easier for everyone to communicate freely – and will lead to a better stream of ideas. As Shimano is progressing, the company is becoming more and more international – with subsidiaries as far apart as Malaysia and the Czech Republic. The original idea was launched by Keizo Shimano, as far back as 1994. Employees have been stimulated to take English conversation courses – and at a meeting held last month, the Team Shimano feeling was put to the test” 200 executives and managers from 21 countries were able to use just the one language.
