NEUKIRCH, Germany (Sep 22) – For a long time there were already rumours. Now company officials have confirmed that the German Biria Group is for sale. A couple of months ago 72 year old Mehdi Biria, a native Iranian and founder of Biria Group, asked a lawyers’ office to search for a new owner. The law office works together with Opti-M&A GmbH, a company sales specialist based in Frankfurt.
Mehdi Biria wants to retire by the end of this year. According to Biria chairman of the board, Gerhard A. Urbannek, there are several bids for a takeover. Bids are accepted until the beginning of October. “With the sale we want to assure further development for the entire group,” Urbannek was quoted in the newspaper Sächsische Zeitung.
The Biria Group is – besides Mifa AG – the largest bicycle producer in Germany. In 2004 they produced about 500,000 units (incl. the delivery bikes of the German Post) Last year’s total sales reached € 75 million. Biria Group employs 435 people (plus 350 seasonal workers). The German bicycle producer owns two factories that are located in Neukirch and Neuhausen. While the logistics center is also based in Neukirch, the group’s sales and sourcing headquarters is based in Edingen-Neckarhausen.
