Electric Bicycle Solutions at IIC-China

SHANGHAI, China – Market research across all of China’s major cities reveals that up to 76% citizens will use electric bicycles for transportation. During the recently concluded 11th Annual International IC-China Conference & Exhibition (IIC-China), Infineon Technologies, NEC Corp. and Atmel Corp. demonstrated their respective semiconductor solutions targeted at electric bicycle applications.

SHANGHAI, China  – Market research across all of China’s major cities reveals that up to 76% citizens will use electric bicycles for transportation. During the recently concluded 11th Annual International IC-China Conference & Exhibition (IIC-China), Infineon Technologies, NEC Corp. and Atmel Corp. demonstrated their respective semiconductor solutions targeted at electric bicycle applications.

 

The three-phase low voltage brushless DC controller from Infineon utilizes an XC866 MCU as its main control unit with fast and high efficiency Hall programming algorithm, as well as high cost-efficiency. Edison Wang, marketing sales supervisor from Sterntec Electronic Co. Ltd, a distributor of Infineon products, disclosed that this solution costs around US$15 (excluding motor) with functions such as cruise, brake, speed limit and driver control circuit monitoring. Additional features include protection from in reverse recharge and mileage display.

Shanghai Acutec Ltd, a distributor for NEC, demonstrated its 78K0S/Kx1+ microcontroller-based electric bicycle solution that promises to solve the higher complexity issues in brushless motor control solutions by using NEC’s uPD78F9222 as its main control unit. This solution includes all the general features of an electric bicycle without added exterior hardware to implement speed control and electronic assisted brake system. Priced at US$9, NEC’s solution is simpler and cheaper compared to other solutions in the market, said an engineer from Acutec. (MH)
