MAARSSEN, Netherlands – French Go Sport seems to be getting a better grip on their finances. While they reported a net loss of €9.3 million over the first months of 2005, the same period this year showed ‘just’ €8.5 million in the red. July and August were decidingly better, so Go Sport management is hopeful for a break-even by year’s end. But still the group outpaced the French sports market, which has been in a serious slump for some years now. Actual growth was 6%, and even 12% for the Go Sport-owned Courir footwear stores. Gross margin improved to 37.9% of the turnover (before taxes). For Go-Sport the Belgian market, on the other hand was responsible for a 2.1% drop in sales.
