DT Swiss Acquires Pace Suspension Fork Business

BIEL, Switzerland – There’s turmoil in the bike suspension business. After earlier this morning the news got out that Hayes Bicycle Group bought Answer/Manitou; now there’s the announcement that DT Swiss took over the suspension and rigid fork business of Pace Cycles Ltd. With that step, DT Swiss says that it will become a full scale, high end suspension component manufacturer.
Already some months ago, it became clear that DT Swiss wants to expand into suspension forks. The Swiss component maker is already producing rear shock absorbers and launched at Eurobike the world’s first shock absorber with an air chamber made of 100% carbon, weighing only 146 grams (photo). Also Christian Mueller (former Answer/Manitou sales & marketing manager) was some months ago appointed as manager of the DT Swiss Suspension Division.
Pace forks will be integrated into the overall DT Swiss suspension range within the next 6 – 12 months. Pace will continue to manufacture and supply customers with its full fork range during the transition period for the model year 2007. Adrian Carter, the owner of the Pace brand will bring his 20 years of experience into this deal, by acting as technical consultant to DT Swiss in the transition period and for future developments. Pace Cycles Ltd. continues to manufacture and sell frames, clothing and its other products under the Pace brand. The companies have agreed that after the transition period, the production of forks will be relocated to the DT Swiss factory in Switzerland, after which Pace will become the exclusive UK distributor of the full range of DT Swiss suspension products as well as continuing its suspension technical, spares and service support in the UK. The parties have agreed confidentiality on the further details of the deal.
