Hayes Announces Integration Strategy

MEQUON, USA – Hayes Bicycle Group, a division of HB Performance Systems Inc., announces its integration plans for the company after the 2006 acquisitions of Wheelsmith and Answer/Manitou. According to Rhonda Kirkwood, vice president and general manager, all Hayes Bicycle Group divisions will be combined in Wisconsin, USA. By year end, all research and development, marketing and sales, and US manufacturing will be operating from facilities in Mequon and Milwaukee. Asian sourcing and manufacturing operations will be in located in Taipei, Taiwan, and mainland China. Hayes announced earlier this year that all suspension forks will be manufactured in the USA. There’s no Taiwan production left for modelyear 08 Forks. Rear shocks will still be produced in Taiwan.
Chris Smith, formerly of Answer Products, has been named global director of sales & marketing for the Hayes Bicycle Group and will set the strategy for the combined brands. Smith will report to Kirkwood. He will also head Hayes Bicycle Group Europe with manager Bernd Pflueger and Thomas Hochstrasser as European OEM sales manager.
The Hayes Bicycle Group product line currently offers: Hayes – Disc brakesManitou – Suspension forks and shocks; Sun Ringlé – Wheels, rims and hubs; Wheelsmith – Spokes and wheel-building services and Answer – Handle bars, stems and shoes.
