Derby Cycle Acquires Kynast Production

CLOPPENBURG, Germany – Derby Cycle Werke has expanded its production facility in Germany considerably by taking over the factory of Kynast bike GmbH. The brandname Kynast was not included in this acquisition. Kynast was bought from Georg Dobelmann who recently acquired the bankrupt estate of the once largest bicycle factory in Germany.

After that Kynast bike GmbH had asked for insolvency again on June 28 of this year. According to various sources this third bankruptcy was forced by a decision of the regional state of Lower Saxony that due to EU regulations was not able to extend a state debt guarantee.

“We are glad with the takeover, because at this location the production can go on with skilled and experienced employees. As a result of the increasing demand for our products, which are produced in Germany in particular, this step contains a possibility to increase our capacities, which we have searched a long time for”, explains Mathias Seidler, CEO of Derby Cycle, his remarkable step. "The facility has a capacity of 100,000 units."

Georg Dobelmann is very happy to have found a new partner. “After a short insight in the business of the company Kynast bike GmbH, which was taken over by us at the same time we took over the warehouse property, it was clear to us that the bike production can be realized only by an expert. I am sure that the employees remain in good hands with Derby Cycle.”

The take over will be effective on December 1st and will safeguard the bike production in Quakenbrück for the future.
