On the first day of Eurobike in 2006 Prologo was shown to the world. With the name from the word Prologue (first stage on tours) and last ‘o’ in the shape of the stop-watch Prologo soon got the attention of the riders. Not because of the name, but because of the specific features of the Prologo saddles that still make this brand stand out from the competition.

Salvatore Truglio (photo) of Prologo Italy will never forget that first day at Eurobike 2006. For the first time the industry saw the Choice saddles with interchangeable padding. The real breakthrough came over a year later, just before Christmas 2007. Salvatore got a call from Bjarne Riis who wanted the Prologo saddles for his CSC team. Important victories followed quickly and Prologo has since then won the Tour and World Championships.

Prologo success is not a coincidence. The founders have a lot of cycling background and owner of the company is Velo, the largest Taiwan saddle manufacturer with yearly production of about 20 million for different brands. “We are producing specific saddles for each category”, says Truglio.

“For model year 2010 we are introducing our first time trial saddle, the Nago Evo TTR. Our saddles are built around unique patented features that make the riding safe, comfortable and efficient. We can only achieve that through out cooperation with professional riders as well as many enthusiasts who provide us a lot of data for our development process. From the start in 2006 our aim has been to become the trend setter in the saddle industry. I think we are successful as within three years we are known in the cycling scene and among the top selling brands in some markets. This is the result of ongoing investments in technology and promotion.

Prologo saddles are available in three shapes (round, semi round and flat). The Italians are not convinced of the concept of saddle with a hole. “We have developed the Active Density technology with different stiffness of the padding and the base of the saddle. Saddles are stiffer on back for seating support and softer towards the front for comfort. But technology will only get you to a certain level on the market; the next thing is investing in OEM sales. We are already doing business with Colnago, Cannondale, Merida, Fuji and Focus. Our next step is the expansion of the line-up with gender specific and mountain bike saddles.”
