Taiwan’s Bike Export to EU Grows 34% in First Half of 2010

TAIPEI, Taiwan – Despite the fact that the EU markets for bicycles are not showing clear signs of recovery during the first half of 2010; the export of complete bikes from Taiwan to Europe increased big time.

Taiwan’s bike makers shipped 1,832,715 complete bikes from the island to Europe during the first six months of 2010. This total was up 34.4 percent on the number of the first six months of 2009.

Interesting to note is also that, according to the Taiwan Bicycle Exporters’ Association, the average unit price dropped during the named period this year. Contrary to earlier years with consecutive record highs on unit prices for Taiwan’s bike export; during the first six months of 2010 the average unit price for an exported bike stood at US dollar 194.52 (144.31 euro); down 8.3 percent on the same period in 2009.
