FULDA, Germany – Wittkop, a subsidiary of Büchel GmbH & Co. Fahrzeugteilefabrik KG. is launching orthopaedic correct saddles under the Medicus brand name. For the development of the Medicus saddles Wittkop cooperated with orthopaedic specialist dr. med. Torsten Werlich.
Entrepreneur Erhard Büchel and Gianni Greifenegg as Wittkop managing director and product developer were also involved in the creation of the orthopaedic Medicus saddles. Special feature of these saddles is the ‘form and function concept’. According to Gianni Greifenegg this concept is related to the requirements at various seating positions. Medicus saddles are divided into three sections, the seat, dynamic and balance zone.
“In the rear zone, the seating zone, there is a firm attenuation with dynamic weight adjustment, the middle zone contains a spring-loaded anatomic triangle recess and in the front zone, the specific shape of the nose provides security and control in the balance of the bike,” explains Dr. med. Werlich. Next to these features, Medicus saddles weigh 1/3 less compared to its ‘counterparts’.
Büchel MD Erhard Büchel stipulates that the Medicus saddles come with matching handlebars. “Medicus pedals will follow suit and they are like the saddles created according to the ‘form follows function’ principle.” The new saddle line will be available from specialist retailers from January 2011.
