Trek Bicycle Expands Manufacturing & Storage Capacity

WATERTOWN, USA – Trek Bicycle Corp has recently signed a one year lease contract to expand its space for manufacturing and storage. The additional space is located in Watertown, Wisconsin close by Trek’s worldwide distribution centre in Oconomowoc.

The new hall measures 38,000 square feet and depending on inventory levels, the amount of space leased by Trek could fluctuate as large as 82,800 square feet. “This implies no change in our production strategy”, says Trek Bicycle spokesman Eric Bjorling.

“We always experience a spike in sales during peak season along with the entire industry. The change in warehouses is simply to move products from one warehouse to another. We are moving inventory closer to our worldwide distribution centre in Oconomowoc to cut down on travel time and emissions of our trucks.”

“We have hired the space for only one year as we first want to experience the benefits of the new warehouse. Rather than locking into a long term lease, this gives us a little bit more flexibility.”

New UK headquarters

Trek UK is currently building a new head office and distribution centre in Milton Keynes. Work has begun on building the 82,700 sq ft facility at Tilbrook and is expected to open in April next year.

Trek sells more than 80,000 a year in the UK plus a range of cycling accessories. In “Business Milton Keynes” Trek Bikes UK manager Nigel Roberts said: “We sell more than 80,000 bicycles a year in the UK and this figure continues to grow due to our continued development of market-leading products and is further assisted by the general growth in cycling taking place in the UK and globally.”
