Geoby Launches New E-bike Concept

The Chinese bicycle manufacturer Geoby consulted former Accel Group’s designer Jorrit Schoonhoven and his business partner Angelo Jansen of Creative Bikes to develop a new e-bike concept. This concept was presented last month at the China Cycle in Shanghai.

“We call this concept the back-bone refering to the styling of the downtube of the frame that houses the battery”, explains Jorrit Schoonhoven. “In my vision the battery will become the center of the e-bike and not only the bicycle but everybody’s way of living. People get surrounded by a growing number of electronic appliances like the e-bike, but also laptops, mobile phones, i-pads, GPS etcetera. Why should we use a separate battery for each of these appliances? It is better to have one power source you can use for all your personal electronic devices.”

Of course today technology does not make it possible to walk around withh your e-bike batteries, they are simply too big and too heavy. Schoonhoven is convinced that future developments will result in smaller, light weight batteries which fit in small suitcases. These batteries can also easily be charged by riding on your bike without causing too much rolling resistance. The position of the battery in the back-bone concept is not new. The construction is a new design, creating an open style frame without it to becoming too voluminous.
