ZEG Acquired Traditional Wanderer Brand


COLOGNE, Germany – Early 2012 Zwei plus Zwei GmbH announced to take the traditional high-end bicycle brand Wanderer off the market at the end of February. Yesterday, the Cologne based dealer cooperative ZEG (Zweirad Einkaufs-Genossenschaft) eG announced the acquisition of the nearly 130 years old brand name.

Product-wise the high end Wanderer brand is a perfect fit to the buyers groups existing private labels Pegasus and Bulls. With Wanderer ZEG accomplishes its bicycle portfolio with ‘timeless high-end touring and trekking bicycles’.

Growing top segment

“The traditional brand Wanderer, which stands for nearly 130 years of top quality bicycle construction, we are increasing our model range within the top segment,” stated ZEG CEO Georg Honkomp. “I am happy to offer this unique bicycle brand to our dealers and customers additionally to our quality family brand Pegasus and our quality sportive brand Bulls.”

Before the takeover Wanderer was mainly sold through the IBD network of the bicycle cooperative VSF e.V. which is concentrating on high-end bicycle products. The financial details of the acquisition were not disclosed.
