Clarks Improves Service with New DC
BIRMINGHAM, UK – To improve stock level and 24 hour turnaround on orders, Clarks Cycle Systems built a brand new distribution center, logistically sited in the UK. It will be opened in November.
“Being able to have constant and available stock levels of our top 150 most popular products all under one roof will really enhance our customer service,” said Tony Wright, CEO of Clarks. “It will make a difference to our speed of delivery, 24 hours in most cases. And we will also be able to remove the restriction of minimum order levels.”
Investment in SAP
New technology plays a large part in the new warehouse management system. “We also invested in a new SAP enterprise resource planning system which enables the business to effectively manage the stock within both the UK and European warehouse. The adoption of this management tool ensures the warehouse team can efficiently process orders leading to dramatic reductions in turnaround times.”
“It’s never just about a building. Creating a successful DC & warehouse operation is as much about the teams of people and the technology you deploy. We have made a big investment to get this right and adopting SAP will help us realize that.”
Integration with website
“The next step will be to complete the SAP integration with our website. This will mean that all our distributors will be able log into their dedicated accounts, see real time stock availability, place orders and manage their accounts.”
“Further developments include the creation of a new purpose-fitted Clarks Service Centre, which will also be located within the UK DC. The Service Centre team will deal with all product warranties from across Europe and have access to large stock levels of spare parts enabling a speedy replacement service; typically within 24 hours of placing an order,” said Tony Wright.
