Canyon Constructs New Production & Logistics Center
KOBLENZ, Germany – Construction has begun on Canyon Bicycles’ new production and logistics center. Based in Koblenz, Germany the 22,000 m² site is to ensure continued growth of the company that is expected to exceed turnover of € 100 million in the 2014 financial year.
Canyon’s new site is located on the outskirts of Koblenz just four miles from the company’s HQ. Main construction is beginning early 2014. Work is expected to be completed prior to the 2015 season. Canyon’s new centre will house the assembly line and also serve as a storage facility. Up until now, all operations were found under one roof at Canyon.Home, which will remain as headquarters.
Since Canyon.Home opened back in 2008, the company has experienced unprecedented growth, with turnover in 2012 more than double that of 2008. At the time of opening, Canyon had just 159 employees, whereas that figure currently stands at 410 and is expected to rise to 450 by the end of this year.
Optimizing logistics procedures
“With the new center we are optimizing our logistics procedures. Customer satisfaction will significantly improve through greater delivery capacity and shorter reaction times,” expressed André Koch, Leader of Production and Logistics.
Founder and CEO of Canyon, Roman Arnold, is pleased to be able to increase the presence of Canyon in the area: “I grew up in the region and I stay true to my roots. From my parents’ garage, then my first bike shop on the streets of Koblenz to Canyon. Home, our bikes gained acclaim first locally, then across Germany, throughout Europe and now around the world. I feel it is my personal duty to further this development.”
