ALMERE, the Netherlands – Yesterday, Pon announced that it has taken over Augusta Benelux BV, better known as BBB Cycling. The company is a specialist in the development and worldwide distribution of parts and accessories as well as bike-wear.
BBB was founded by former road-racers Chris Koppert and Frank Moons in the nineties. Currently BBB Cycling is working with distributors in 44 countries. Bikes as well as P&A
With this take-over Pon – since 2011 owner of Gazelle in the Netherlands and since 2012 of Derby Cycle in Germany (both market leaders in their respective countries) as well as Cervélo and Union – is joining the ranks of worldwide operating bike manufacturers that offer a complete product portfolio that next to bicycles and e-bikes includes parts and accessories.
Rob Oudshoorn, Pon Holdings board member and responsible for the Pon Bicycle Group, says about the take-over, “Adding a company to the Group that is worldwide active in parts and accessories fits the Pon strategy. With BBB we acquire a very international company. The combination of knowledge and products of BBB Cycling and the network of Pon increases the growth potential of both parties considerably.”
BBB Cycling remains headquartered in Leiden, the Netherlands and will retain its independence. Founders Chris Koppert and Frank Moons will for the time being stay as directors to accompany a successful transition to Pon. The current management team is to be the driving force behind the further development of BBB Cycling.
BBB is rooted in road-race and mountainbiking. This season the company has a close collaboration with the French ProTour team FDJ and the Pro-continental teams Wanty-Groupe Gobert and Roompot Oranje Platoon. In mountainbiking BBB is attached to the team of MTB icon Bart Brentjens
