Tern Bicycles Celebrates 5th Birthday at Eurobike
TAIPEI, Taiwan – There will not only be celebrations for the 5th anniversary at the Tern booth (B4-406) in Eurobike. In particular as Tern’s birthday marks new directions for the brand.
While Tern is often defined as a folding bike company founder and Tern Team Leader, Joshua Hon wants to go forward. “We’re looking to orient the company squarely within the four categories of urban cycling: folding bikes, electric bikes, cargo bikes, and urban lifestyle bikes.”
With that in mind Tern’s MY 2017 line-up includes an folding e-bike with a Bosch mid-motor. “Our Bosch bike is a game changer,” says Hon. “With the industry’s leading folding technology, expert manufacturing partners, and one of the best pedelec systems in the business, something of this caliber has never been done before.”
Tern’s folding e-bike is named Elektron. With patented folding technology, a Bosch Active e-bike drivetrain, integrated Valo 2 light with 150 lumens of power, and Shimano Deore hydraulic disc brakes for all-weather control, the Elektron is named by Tern as the best tool for getting around cities. Unlike conventional e-bikes, the Elektron is designed to integrate with subways, buses, and other transport networks. For theft prevention, the Elektron stores easily under a desk at work. By combining electric and folding, the Elektron takes everything great about folding bikes—multi-modal commuting, portability for travel and storage—and accelerates it.
Bickerton which is Tern’s brand with a historic background is launching the Argent, globally for 2017. Of equal parts heritage and innovation and inspired by Harry Bickerton’s original design, the Argent pays homage to the rectangular frame and hinge abutments of the 1971 Bickerton, but adds modern design, materials and technology to make a super-strong and stiff frame.
