Optima Cycles Acquires Dutch ID Brand from Amazing Wheels
BEVERWIJK, the Netherlands – Optima Cycles based in Beverwijk (the Netherlands) has taken over the Dutch ID brand from Flyer e-bike importer Amazing Wheels. The sale of Optima Cycles follows after Amazing Wheels was acquired by Biketec, the producer of Flyer e-bikes.
The brand Dutch ID has been created by Michael van der Meijden who also founded Amazing Wheels in 2004 that since grew into one of the leading import companies in the Netherlands. After selling Amazing Wheels to Biketec last February he now regains ownership of Dutch ID through Optima Cycles.
Optima Mobility Group
Optima Cycles is a subsidiary of the Optima Mobility Group of which Van Der Meijden is owner and CEO. MM Bicycles, a bicycle en e-bike manufacturer based in Taichung, Taiwan is also part of the Optima Mobility Group.
Assembly and production partner
Dutch ID markets mid to high-end e-bikes. Optima Cycles has been the assembly and production partner for Dutch ID in the past years. Next to its main brand Dutch ID Optima Cycles also markets entry-level city bikes under the Simple Bikes brand while the company will relaunch its Optima recumbent models next March.
MM Bicycles in Taiwan
The press release on the Dutch ID takeover by Optima Cycles also points to, “Additional advantages of the takeover. These are for example the shorter supply line, which will benefit current dealers and consumers.” That shorter supply line will of course be through MM Bicycles that is to act as the Taiwan based sourcing partner of Optima Cycles.
