Pon Bike Group Sets Stronger Focus on E-Bikes


CLOPPENBURG, Germany – Current Derby Cycle CEO Thomas Raith has been appointed head of all Pon Bike Group e-bike activities. He is to perform his new role next to being primarily responsible for Derby’s Performance brand Focus. These changes result in an expansion of the Derby Cycle Management Team with co-CEO Janco van der Heiden.

Thomas Raith will be leading the Pon Bike Group’s e-bike activities from Stuttgart which is the official location of Derby’s Performance brand Focus. In a press release Derby Cycle says, “In particular with the fast growing e-MTB sector Focus is to be the leading brand of the Pon Bike Group.”

Sales and brand specialist

Derby Cycle’s new co-CEO Janco van der Heiden is the former CEO of VW and Skoda in the Netherlands. As an established sales and brand specialist Van Der Heiden will manage the development of the Kalkhoff, Raleigh, Univega and Rixe brands as well as the company’s assembly operation in Cloppenburg.

Brand relaunch

As a major reason for the management team expansion Derby Cycle names the successful brand relaunch for their Kalkhoff and Focus brands over the last two years. “This increased brand orientation combined with the growth ambitions of Derby Cycle requires an expansion of the management team.”

Omnichannel strategies

According to Derby Cycle Janco van der Heiden is a successful  brand developer, taking them to digital platforms and to Omnichannel strategies. According to Derby Cycle he has a vast experience in managing an international multi-brand business. Van Der Heiden says, “I am very much looking forward to lift our brands together with our talented team to the next level.” Janco van der Heiden’s official residence will be in Cloppenburg.

Pon.Bike strategy

Thomas Raith comments, “Principally our products aim to be among the best the market is offering. This further step in the implementation of the Pon.Bike strategy is going to contribute to realizing our goals.”

Both Janco van der Heiden and Thomas Raith will report directly to Armin Landgraf, Senior Vice President of Pon.Bike. Derby Cycle Holding GmbH is a part of Dutch Pon.Bike group.
