Kross Restarts E-Bike Production at Multicycle
ULFT, the Netherlands – Kross S.A. is acting fast after its last week’s announcement on the takeover of bankrupted Dutch Multicycle. The Polish bike maker has appointed a Managing Director who is restarting in particular the e-bike production at the Dutch bike maker with 12 of the former 65 employees.
Janusz Kowalski has been appointed Multicycle MD. He has been export director at Kross S.A. In a Dutch local newspaper report he presented more details on the Multicycle acquisition by the biggest bicycle manufacturer of Poland.
What Kross bought
What has been bought by Kross are the Multicycle premises, stocks, brands as well as intellectual property rights. What is still being discussed is whether Kross will abide to the warranty claims filed by Multicycle dealers before the bankruptcy.
What is particularly interesting is the fact that Kross has been looking into a Multicycle takeover some ten years ago. It even came to talks then with the Multicycle management of that time, said Kacper Sosnowski in the newspaper report. He is the son of Kross founder and CEO Zbigniew Sosnowski. Kacper Sosnowski is a member of the Kross Board as business developer.
Janusz Kowalski is currently restarting the production at Multicycle which is located in the Eastern part of Holland, near to the German border. Kowalski is restarting the activities of the Dutch bike maker – which is continuing its activities under the name Multicycle B.V. – with 12 employees. According to Kowalski this could grow to some 20 people. However, he doesn’t expect the company to grow to a staff of over 50 people.
According to the new MD Multicycle is to get a ‘lean organisation’. “Production is to continue here but with a much smaller team and a much smaller administration. We aim at producing more with less people. Next to that we hear from former employees of many ideas that have never been developed further. We want to turn them into viable concepts. In particular for e-bikes as that is what we focus on at Multicycle.”
Kross’ stepping stone
Next to e-bikes Multicycle is also the stepping stone for Kross’ start in city bikes. Both categories are not being addressed as the 300,000 bikes that are being produced annually by the Polish manufacturer are primarily sports bikes. Kowalski explained, “We run a separate city bike brand currently. But it’s small. And we just started with e-bikes. Both brands are not competitive enough.” With Multicycle Kross is to change all that.
