Ghaziabad based Spark Engineering recently launched a product range under new sub-brand ‘Vortex’ exclusively for India’s domestic market. Spark entered into a strategic partnership with a Taiwanese company to obtain the technology while the transmission components for the Indian market are made in China.

Lighter and easy to shift

“We are the first Indian company to introduce 8 and 9 speed drive train systems for the aftermarket as well as for OEMs,” said Pranav Aggarwal, Business Development Manager at Spark Engineering at the Indian bicycle show CFOSE 2019 which took place recently in Ludhiana. “The Vortex range is made of engineered plastics, which makes them lighter in weight and easy to shift.”

“Our objective is to fill the market space between high and low range by bringing products in the mid-price range,” he said. “On average Vortex components are 20 to 30% higher in price than the low-end products available on the domestic market.”

More products soon available

Spark intends to expand the Vortex branded product range in the near future. “Currently, while testing the market with the 8 and 9 speed drive train systems, we also plan to introduce more products on a premium level,” he stressed.

Established in 1989, Spark Engineering emerged as prominent producer of bicycle transmission systems during the last two decades. A majority of the 85% of the company’s production is shipped to European OEMs. Spark is already ISO 9001:2000 certified and SA 8000 compliant. Its freewheel range conform to French Standard NFR 03-020, British Standard BS 6102 Part I:1992 and new EU Standard EN 14766.

Spark Engineering also manufactures a premium range of bicycle gears, spares & accessories under the Starlit brand.
