Shimano and Battery Maker BMZ Expand Cooperation


KARLSTEIN am MAIN, Germany – BMZ and Shimano announce that they are expanding their cooperation. It results in more BMZ batteries that fit with the Shimano STEPS e-bike systems. It means for OEMs that the BMZ batteries can be suited to specific requirements.

BMZ is Europe’s biggest Li-Ion battery maker. The company has expanded its product range with V7 integrated downtube batteries. This compact designed battery allows for top, bottom or side-ways mountability, depending on frame geometry. The V7 battery is made with BMZ’s 21700 cells that offer a lifetime of 12 years. The 14Ah, 36V V7 battery provides 504Wh capacity.

Increasing production

BMZ also announces that it is further increasing its production capacity, in particular at its HQ in Karlstein am Main, Germany. BMZ owner Sven Bauer says “This month, the second of the three construction phases in Karlstein will be completed.”

The construction consists of an additional 3,000m² production area as well as a logistics center with a capacity of 12,000 pallets.
BMZ is also expanding its production facilities in Poland and China. The production expansion as well as the needed logistic and back office requirements that come with it, call for a total investment of 120 million euro.
